This is an incredible little film made for no money, a labour of love for one Aaron Sims,

RL7 is an eight-foot tall combat robot that goes on the run after malfunctioning with vivid memories of once being human. As its creators and the military close in, RL7 battles its way to uncovering the shocking truth behind its mysterious visions and past.

Directed by Aaron Sims
starring Robert Joy (Land of the Dead, CSI:NY) and David Anders (Heros, 24).

take a look below.

Sorry, but you will need the Adobe Flash Player to see this media.

It had no budget, and yes he called in a lot of favours, and of course he had the hardware too, but that is pretty special!!

On the subject of strange films made for no money...

Of course, the travel costs are quite high ;)

Since studying my degree it's made me realise how you can get a production together with little or no money. It's amazing what software can do these days ;)

Didn't some De-Mont students do a 28 Days type film or some such other?

He must have had a LOT of favours lol xD But it does look amazing. Hard to imagine it cost nothing though, purely because of the quality.

I always wondered if all you super talented people could something together similar to 28 Days. As ever though, it's time, just not enough of it!

Tom's friends did Zomblies on a pretty low budget through a lot of goodwill and smart thinking. If you dispense with the need for any special effects or set building, and source all your props from people involved in the production, there's no reason you couldn't put something solid together. Desktop editing tech is good enough now to produce commercial results, and video modes on DSLRs have opened up possibilities that would have taken a fortune in the past.

It's always the lighting that kills it for me. I saw a great bit of work done by students at Oadby Beauchamp College, but it all looked a bit bright. I could be way off on this though!

It all depends on where you're shooting, and what effects you want. You can correct a lot of ambience in post, but for the rest an amazing amount of work goes into making it look like no work at all went into it :)

Well, I want to create a futuristic look within SL College, making it look a bit like the interior of the station on LV in Aliens, but have something like I Am Legend. All I have to do now is ask Bradley Cooper if he'll do it for free.
