WARNING, the video may cause distress.

Aisha was married in Afghanistan. Today her picture is on the front cover of Time. After reading the articles concerning "Green on Green" incidents from the Wikileaks war logs, and seeing this video, I wonder if that country can ever be saved.

Aisha ran away from home, her marriage wasn't a happy one, and what happened to ehr as a result. Her brother in law pinned her down while her husband took a knife, and cut off her ears and her nose.

There was a photo project a while ago to illustrate the shocking amount of acid attacks inflicted on women in the middle east under similar circumstances. It seems that the sort of scumbags who would do such a thing seem to have a power trip over the idea of disfiguring women. I'll link to the page here because it's not a topic that should be swept under the rug and because the accounts of the women involved are worth reading, but be warned that the images are extremely shocking.

I watched that video up to the first image of the lady's full face and turned it off. It's awful and is certainly an image that stays in your mind for a while.

You'd think civilisation encompassed earth wouldn't you, but sadly, there are still some who think that life is cheap and that people can be treated like that.
